THE BRIDGE – UPLIFTING TALE FROM KOSOVO

We are proud to present this uplifting animation movie from a country where film production is tiny. “The Bridge” is an 8-minute fairy tale about two sides of a river, two different worlds. The film is about human conditions and how the world of children, full of hope and expectations, meets the by pragmatism and disappointment coloured world of adults. You can see The Bridge on Friday 17:00h, followed by the Macedonian film “The War is Over”.

Of these five film makers, Zehra Derya Koç (1977, Turkey) is our special guest on Sunday. CINEMA KOMUNISTO – MEMORIES OF A COUNTRY THAT NO LONGER EXISTS

“Cinema Komunisto” is a documentary based on stories from directors, movie stars and studio bosses from former Yugoslavia. It tells us the story of how Marshall Tito (1892- 1980) shaped the film industry for his country. With the state supporting filmmakers, “no problem” was the standard answer for whatever a director needed – with soldiers serving their entire tour of duty as extras on war films, and even the blowing up of a real bridge to create an Oscar-nominated film. Tito followed these film shoots closely, watching one film a day in his private theatre. Cinema Komunisto consists of clips from over 60 feature films, some great archive footage, and the bittersweet memories of the storytellers, with plenty of funny anecdotes and remarkable details.

ZEPHYR WITH SPECIAL GUEST BELMA BAŞ

Standing on a hilltop in the Turkish countryside, you would assume 11-year-old Zephyr is staring boldly at the future; in fact, all she cares about is the past. Indifferent to the immense beauty that surrounds her, Zephyr’s thoughts are punctuated by departures. Her mother, Ay, a globetrotting activist, has carved deep holes in her daughter’s emotional stability owing to her frequent absences. Left to the care of her stoic grandparents, Zephyr struggles with an unremitting sense of loss. Will her mother ever show up? Unable to deal with the reality of her longing, Zephyr finds refuge in a sequence of dreams. “Zephyr” is a beautifully shot debut film by director Belma Baş, who is present at ENFF 2011 as special guest.

The Eastern Neighbours Film Festival will be held in Utrecht, but does not stop there. Entitled “ENFF On Tour”, the festival visits several Dutch cities. ENFF On Tour will be in The Hague (November 4th and 5th), Leeuwarden (November 11th), Zevenaar (November 13th) and Delft (December 11th). BEKROONDE ALBANESE FILM AMNESTY AFSLUITER ENFF 2011

De Albanese film “Amnestia” (“Amnesty”) behoorde dit jaar tot de officiële selectie tijdens de Berlinale en zette daarmee de Albanese film op de kaart. Regisseur Buyar Alimani laat ons het leven van alledag zien in het door werkloosheid en economische tegenslag geteisterde land, waar tribale, patriarchale verhoudingen nog steeds een grote rol spelen. Onder deze moeilijke omstandigheden bezoekt een moeder van twee, die net haar baan in een textielfabriek is kwijtgeraakt, maandelijks haar man in de gevangenis, die wegens gokschulden vastzit. Het zijn echter niet deze bezoeken, maar vooral de vrienden die ze maakt onder andere bezoekers die haar hoop geven. De film geeft een realistisch beeld van het hedendaagse Albanië, maar wordt door de vele kleine ontroerende momenten – gelukkig – nooit troosteloos.

NIEUW: KINDEROPPAS TIJDENS FILMS

Wil je graag naar een film tijdens ENFF 2011 maar lukt het je niet om een oppas te vinden voor je kind(eren)? Speciaal voor ouders is er dit jaar tijdens het festival een oppasdienst, zodat je gewoon je kinderen mee kunt nemen naar het Louis Hartlooper Complex. Onder begeleiding van twee professionele begeleidsters worden de kinderen volop vermaakt en kunnen ze daar knutselen en tekenen. Deze oppasdienst geldt voor alle films in het programma van vrijdag 28 t/m zondag 30 oktober.

ENFF FILM WORKSHOP: OPROEP VOOR FILMMAKERS

Voor het tweede jaar op rij is er aan ENFF een workshop voor jonge filmmakers verbonden. Van 1 tot 8 november 2011 gaan in het Nutshuis (Den Haag) twaalf filmmakers uit acht verschillende Europese landen aan de slag met het thema “Is justice fair?”, waarbij zij volop de ruimte krijgen aan hun vaardigheden te werken. Professionele begeleiding is er van Goran Devic (filmmaker), Eddy Terstal (filmmaker), Rada Sesic (filmmaker en criticus) en Nenad Fiser (professor). Ben jij een getalenteerde film- of documentairemaker van 20-30 jaar, woon je in Nederland, spreek en schrijf je vloeiend Engels en ben je gemotiveerd om in groep met gemengde culturen te werken, stuur dan uiterlijk 15 oktober je cv en motivatiebrief naar info@enff.nl.
