Eastern Neighbours Film Festival was started in Utrecht 2008 by a group of friends with the aim to present to the Dutch audience the most recent, exciting films from the East and the South East European countries. These are mainly countries with a small but powerful film production. Why eastern neighbours? We feel that cinema can bring people closer to each other, make them understand each other’s culture better and deeper, give them an inside view into the mentality and history. Our aim is to bring cultures together to create more knowledge and tolerance.
The Festival is not just an event with high quality cinema. It is much more than that. We have especially designed the entire festival to initiate networking and new partnerships and create unforgettable moments for every participant and cinema goer. Most of the selected films have their Dutch premiere, after being successfully screened at many film festivals worldwide.
12th ENFF AND THE 1ST ONLINE EDITION
Eastern Neighbours Film Festival presents the best recent films from East and Southeast Europe, from countries with a small but often powerful cinema production. We bring current fiction feature films as well as meaningful documentaries and shorts. Our Festival brings mostly Dutch premieres to The Netherlands and introduces new talents and remarkable cinema voices that deal with relevant topics in an exciting and thought-provoking manner. For the first time, we will have the section New Talents Competiton in which we put under the limelight 1st films of upcoming directors.
The 12th edition of ENFF is going to be held online from 4 – 15 November 2020 via the Picl platform. It will also be hosted on-site at the Filmhuis Den Haag on the 7th and the 8th of November. Each year the film program is accompanied by several side events, so this year we will also have several debates and masterclasses online and on-site in cinemas around The Netherlands. An important part of our program consists of the OnTour screenings. This year we will visit cinemas in The Hague, Amsterdam and Utrecht.
