A Special screening of a Hungarian thriller directed by Lili Horvat
The thirteenth edition of the Eastern Neighbors Film Festival has recently ended, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be resting until the next edition in November. If you accidentally missed our Dutch premiere of an intriguing psychological thriller by Hungarian director Lili Horvat, now you have the opportunity to watch it again as part of our On Tour program.
Preparations To Be Together For An Unknown Period Of Time will be screened with English subtitles at the Louis Hartlooper Cinema in Utrecht on May 18 at 7 PM. Our visitors will get the chance to talk to our special guest, the film producer Dora Csernatory and to enjoy Hungarian cocktails.
This notable film is Horvat’s second feature. It tells the story of 40-year-old neurosurgeon Marta who falls in love with Janos, a doctor she met at an oncology conference in New Jersey. She leaves her brilliant American career behind and returns to Budapest to start a new life with the man she loves. Marta waits for him in vain on the Liberty Bridge, but he does not show up at their meeting place. She begins to search desperately for him, but when she finally finds him, the love of her life claims they have never met before.
– This woman goes blindly but determined toward something – even in the moments of greatest doubt, the strength of intuition shines in her. While sometimes her character is on the brink of madness, everyone who has ever waited in vain on a date or projected something into their love can feel what she feels – said Horvat who found the inspiration for her character in Kleist’s Käthchen von Heilbronn, Madeleine in Hitchcock’s Vertigo, Truffaut’s Adèle H. and Kieślowski’s female characters.
Preparations To Be Together For An Unknown Period Of Time won many awards at international festivals for the best direction, best film, and best acting. The main role is played by Natasa Stork, who was promoted to a European shooting star in 2021 at the Berlinale.
