Synopsis

In ‘Remunda’ documentary style, with lots of personal sharp observations, suitable tint of humor, charming, yet serious, the documentary contemplates on the current situation in Ukraine. Driven by curiosity and personal interest, knowing the country and having close relations with some common people, Remunda brings to the surface the seriousness of the situation in the country where people are strongly divided by their political stands. Many families have members in both the western and eastern part of Ukraine, in cities like Kiev and Donetsk. How do they communicate and discuss Ukrainian urgent issues? During his travels, the filmmaker finds himself behind the front lines, chronicling the lives of the population in the territories controlled by separatists. Director Remunda is a multi-awarded documentary author, also remembered as the co-creator of the confrontational satirical documentaries ‘Czech Dream’ in 2004 and ‘Czech Peace’ in 2010 and many other works. He was a guest at the ENFF in 2014.

Verhaal

Deze documentaire reflecteert op de huidige situatie in Oekraïne; in ‘Remunda’-documentairestijl, met veel persoonlijke, scherpe observaties, met een vleugje humor en charmant, maar toch ernstig. Remunda, gedreven door nieuwsgierigheid en interesse, kent het land en heeft vriendschappen met mensen daar. Hij brengt de ernst van de situatie naar de oppervlakte in dit land waar de mensen sterk verdeeld zijn door hun politieke standpunten. Veel gezinnen hebben familieleden in zowel het westelijke als oostelijke deel van Oekraïne, in steden als Kiev en Donetsk. Hoe bespreken zij dringende Oekraïense kwesties? Tijdens zijn reizen staat de filmmaker aan de frontlinie – hij registreert het leven van de bevolking in de gebieden die in handen zijn van separatisten. Regisseur Remunda is gevierd documentairemaker, hij maakte onder andere de confronterende satirische documentaires ‘Czech Dream’ in 2004 en ‘Tsjechische Peace’ in 2010. In 2014 was hij ook te gast op de ENFF.
