A thriller by Rezo Gigineishvili, premiered at Berlinale: this film fictionalised the tragic hostage crisis that happened in 1983 in Georgia. Screenings are followed by Q&A with the producer Tamara Tatishvili.
Synopsis
A group of young artists and their progressive friends made “almost a perfect plan” to hijack an airplane on the commercial flight from Tbilisi in order to escape Soviet regime repression. However, their amateurish plan went horribly wrong leaving several passengers dead and injured, after the army got involved in a rescue mission. Made in the form of a hijacking thriller, this film tackles the dilemma: how high is the price one is willing to pay for the idea of freedom? With its well-built suspense, this film leaves you with an open question: who is the hostage here – passengers or a group of youngsters? Or maybe all of them?
