Section ENFF KICK-OFF: MEET THE TEAM AND WATCH A GREAT FILM

One of the most vibrant visual artist and filmmakers from Croatia explores the socialist heritage of the former Yugoslavia and provides modern meaning by working with historical artefacts. Brilliant cinematography of Boris Poljak. The film is introduced by ENFF’s managing director Kostana Banovic.

Synopsis

Vis, the flagship of the ex-Yugoslav navy, was sunk in 2016 and turned into a diving attraction in Croatia. The ship is located near Brijuni Islands where in 1956, Tito, Nasser and Nehru met to discuss their opposition to the Cold War, which led to the Non-Aligned Movement. By employing visually impressive shots, the film establishes a signature spatial and temporal narrative. At the same time, it enters the space of fusion between personal and collective memory and dismemory. In the context of political and economic changes that have been occurring in Croatian society for the past several decades, the scenes acquire metaphorical and symbolic meanings, imbued with powerful socio-psychological implications.
