FIRST FILMS SELECTED

We are happy to announce first feature films selected for Eastern Neighbours Film Festival 2018!

This year, ENFF brings Georgian film DEDE, an outstanding cinematic piece about woman’s restless fight for freedom set in the deep Caucasus Mountains. A multiple-awarded debut by female director Mariam Khatchvani who shaped this fascinating story around her grandma’s real-life experience.

From Macedonia, we have chosen an impressive debut THE SECRET INGREDIENT by Gjorce Stavreski, Macedonian submition for the Oscars. This award-winning black comedy tells a story of an underpaid train mechanic who gives his father a cake made from stolen marijuana to relieve his cancer pain, but finds himself cornered by the criminals and the nosy neighbours who want a recipe for the “healing” cake.

A young new voice from Kosovo, female director Blerta Zeqiri will take us to an unusual wedding in her strong debut THE MARRIAGE, the Kosovar submission for the Oscars. In this well-performed, absorbing and empathetic contemporary drama, the director unfolds the impossibility of gay Romeo and Juliette in a patriarchal society spicing the story with charm and local customs.

Among many Dutch premieres that we will have this year, we highlight Slovenian film IVAN, made by very well known theatre director Janez Burger. The winner of eight trophies at the Festival of Slovenian Film and the best feature film at this year’s LET’S CEE Film Festival in Vienna.

The new edition of ENFF will be held from 7 – 11 November in Filmhuis Den Haag. More feature films, documentaries, short films and animations from East and South-East Europe to be announced! As the Festival approaches, don’t miss a single update. Sing up for our newsletter and find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
