gaze!

Part of this edition’s program looks at how specific closed communities are being depicted by filmmakers – outsiders. Is it necessary for a filmmaker to speak the language of hers/his film protagonist, whose gaze it is in a documentary? Next to selection of films, we’ll also have a Film Talk about the topic. A. o., we present Dutch premiere of outstanding Romanian documentary The Chalice. Of Sons and Daughters by Catalina Tesar and Dana Bunescu. The film digs with almost never seen insider’s view into complex rules and rituals of Transylvanian Roma community. Furthermore, the Czech film Brotherhood observes an extremely closed Bosnian village community of radicalised Islamists.
